Environmental protection
Environmental protection is one of the most fundamental spheres of the company’s responsibility. That is why every decision taken by the company is also assessed in the context of environmental protection.
The principal goal of a full-blown environmental protection policy is to ensure the so-called „zero-spill practice” at all levels of business, which means operating only safe vessels and minimizing environmental pollution and safety risks.
To implement this policy all onboard crews must:
- consistently follow standard procedures;
- duly identify and prevent safety risks;
- participate in regular training to consolidate depollution skills.
Where safety and environmental protection are concerned human factor is what matters most. Therefore JSC „Latvijas kuģniecība” does its best to ensure that every person the company employs is motivated, qualified and has undertaken appropriate training, feels personal responsibility for and is actively involved in the implementation of the company’s environmental protection and safety policy.
An additional safeguard to guarantee that the environmental protection measures implemented by JSC „Latvijas kuģniecība” comply with the highest applicable standards is the efficient safety and quality management system implemented by the company, which guarantees full compliance with all applicable national and international environmental protection laws and guidelines. The system is maintained in line with ISM Code requirements.
